Inspiration Monday 1

Hi guys! So happy monday! I know I have not posted in FOREVER, but I have been reading. It is finals week here, and I have been trying to focus on my work....instead, I have been reading blogs. While reading I came across Inspiration Mondays and I LOVED the idea! First it will help me with inspiration since I have not thrifted in a while (hopefully this weekend!)

Basically every Monday two birds  posts a picture that is supposed to inspire an outfit. So I decided to give it a shot.
Here is the original image:

As tempted as I was to throw on some basket ball shorts and a t-shirt, I decided to let Heidi Klum be the inspiration. I decided that I would pull the skinnies, stripes and loose fit top as my focuses in this outfit.

Here is what I came up with:

Without the inspiration, I would have NEVER put this outfit together...just jeans and a top, its not rocket science Janet....I know, I know. I really like the look, I love the neckline and pattern of this top, but I worred that it made me look bigger because it has no structure, but this belt is perfect for that! (remember I was looking for something to go with this belt back in my post: What to do??) I prefer the look without the scarf, but it went with the inspiration.

Skinny Jeans ($3) thrifted
Belt ($1) thrifted
Top (around $3) Old Navy
Scarf (around $5) Target

Yay for my first Inspiration Monday! (and Sorry for my messy room!)
PS. My friend Jade is coming this weekend, and she was the first person that got me into thrifting, so we will probably be shopping, so more outfits soon!

DIY

So, this is my grandmother, known to everyone as Mamaw (pronounced ma'am + awwww, can you tell I'm from the south?)
When I was little Mamaw sewed all my dresses, skirts, basically anything she could sew, we didn't buy.  I loved picking out fabrics and patters. Between my freshman and sophomore year in college, I became obsessed with making my own skirts. However, since I did not have a sewing machine, I had to do them by hand and it took FOREVER. The skirts were essentially the cost of elastic since I got the fabric from Mamaw's stash.

this is my the second skirt I made and I am in love with it. I can wear it with nice tip and sweater and go to a job interview, or more casually like I have done here and wear it around school. I would have never thought to pair this skirt with this coral shirt I got from Old Navy, but my very stylish friend Ronshalee suggested it. I paired it with the vest, and love the look!
I love the pattern of this skirt, it is black and white stitching so it looks grey. It was also ver easy to sew. You measure the fabic to fit your waste, stretch the elastic and pin. Sew the fabric and elastic and when you are done the fabric will gather. Super easy.

While this outfit was not thrifted, the price tags make it seem thrifted. The the entire outfit, with the exception of the shoes, was about $8. The shoes are the most expensive piece of clothing I own. They are BCBG and cost $85. They were purchased for my cousin's wedding.
Shirt probably about $3 (Old Navy)
Skirt $2 (for elastic)
Vest $3 (Rainbow)

.:Polka Dots:.

This is another skirt I made with Mamaw's fabric. For this style you uses excess fabric, and sew the top like a hem, and then thread elastic through it. Again, so easy. This is such a fun, breezy skirt and since Mamaw already had the elastic, it was FREE!

For this look, I paired the skirt with my Jersey for APO. It really makes the masculine cut of the Jersey more feminine and cute. The pic on the left, it me doing the sign of my family in APO, the Squirrel fam.

What to do??

So sometimes I go into the thrift store, or am given and item, and I see it has mad potential, so I buy it. I mean why not? It is affordable and fabulous. Then I get it home and I realize I don't have an outfit for it yet. So here are a few items I have gotten recently that I have not figured out what to wear with them yet.

I recently got these shoes for FREE! I was working to clean out one of the APO closets, and we had alot of clothes from a fundraiser a while back, so I grabbed these! they were practically new and my size! I can't wait to find something to wear them with!

So I recently got this belt at Last Chance. I have been on the hunt for a perfect, thick, black belt that did not look like it was made from melted plastic. I saw this one and fell in LOVE. I absolutely adore the cut out detail and the greyish black leather. Still looking for the perfect outfit to wear it with!                                                                                                                 I tried pairing it with a black skirt and men's v-neck, and I liked the look, ok (and will probably wear it) but this belt has so much more potential than that!

So I saw this Jacket in at Last Chance and I was skeptical about it, but it reminded me of a jacket that some of my friends have, so I picked it up, tried it on and really liked it! It was edgy, and looks great with dresses. I had to cut out the shoulder pads, and am anxious for cold to come so I can wear it! pretty good for $3.50.

Another Last Chance find (from the same shopping spree as the jacket, and purple belt from pretty in purple. I saw this electric blue belt and instantly adored it! I have NO IDEA what to wear it with. I picked it up to go with a zebra print jacket, but it was gone before I could buy it! Hopefully you will see this belt again paired with an outfit!

yOU know what it is...

black and yellow!

I am a student at Oglethorpe University (if you have never heard of it, it is basically a  small Liberal Arts school that looks like Hogwarts). Our colors are black and gold, so when I found this dress at Last Chance, I HAD to have it.

Dress $10 (Last Chance)

I was lucky finding this one, it was brand new with tags, originally $24, but guess who scored it for $10! This kid! I wore it the day after I got it and felt great, it was a great fit, and fun a flirty. You know those days when you know you just look good and you did not even have to try? That is what this dress does for you! It is great!

Accessories
I am not very accessory savvy, in fact I barely have ANY accessories. So, Goal: get some accessories (other than shows and belts) next time I am thrifting. I have had these shoes forever, so I do not remember the cost, but I know they were from Fashion Bug
sequin wedges

they are a bit tattered, but still cute and comfy!

Pretty in Purple

So one thing you will learn relatively quickly is that I am in a Sorority, and a Fraternity. I know what you are thinking..."what?? frat?? but you are a girl....or are you?? ahhhh I'm confused." Well I can assure you I am indeed a girl, but I am in a social greek organization and Alpha Phi Omega, national service fraternity.

However this outfit is inspired by my sorority. Our main color is violet. So anytime I see something purple in the racks, I am instantly drawn to it.

Jeans: $5 (Last Chance Thrift store)
Top $3 (Thrifted)
Sweater $3 (KMart)
Belt $0.50 (Last Chance)
Total: $11.50

I got the purple top from a Thrift store my friend Jade introduced me to (I can't remember the name) but I almost did not buy this top. I thought it looked like I had curtains on my boobs.  She convinced me to get it, and now I LOVE it. It is so versatile, dress it up or down.
The Jeans are from a thrift store called Last Chance and were pratically new, dark wash, wide leg for half off! On that same shopping spree I bought this purple belt ($0.50!!) I did not know what I would wear it with, but it matched the top PERFECTLY!
The sweater was a clearance rack find from Kmart....another thing you will learn, is I LOVE black sweaters, I have many....so I have taken to identifying them by political party. :p this is my" independent" sweater, classic (like consevatives) but the sequin pockets are more daring (liberal)
